You picked out quality flower. The last thing you want is for it to dry out, lose its smell or turn harsh a week later. At Potent Roots we treat storage like part of the experience, because how you store it decides how it smokes.
1. Use airtight glass
Glass jars with a tight seal are the gold standard. Glass does not hold odors or static like plastic bags do, and a good seal keeps air from pulling moisture and terpenes out of your flower. Amber or UV-resistant glass is even better.
2. Keep it dark
Light, especially sunlight, breaks down the compounds that give flower its punch and its flavor. Store jars in a drawer, cabinet or storage box, never on a sunny windowsill.
3. Keep it cool, not cold
Aim for a steady room temperature, roughly 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Skip the fridge and freezer. Temperature swings create condensation, and moisture invites mold. Freezing can also make trichomes brittle so they snap off when you handle the bud.
4. Control humidity
Flower stays at its best around 58 to 62 percent relative humidity. Two-way humidity packs take the guesswork out of it by adding or absorbing moisture as needed. Drop one in each jar and swap it when it gets stiff.
5. Do not overfill or underfill
Fill your jar about three quarters of the way. Too much air speeds up drying, but packing it tight crushes trichomes. Give the buds room to breathe without leaving a huge air pocket.
6. Label everything
Write the strain name and the date on each jar. It helps you rotate your stash so nothing sits forgotten in the back of the cabinet.
7. Break it up when you need it
Grind right before you roll or pack. Ground flower has more surface area, so it dries out and loses aroma faster than whole buds.
